SAP case study (click here to read) Company profile: SAP,
a Germany-based global third largest in the
world software company (largest in Europe),
offering more than 25 industry solution portfolios
for large enterprises and more than 550 micro-vertical
solutions for midsize companies and small businesses.
In 1992 SAP opened an office in Moscow and today
9 out of 10 largest Russian companies run SAP.
Successful cooperation with Rulex Language
Services started in late 2006, when
we won the bid for editing and localizing SAP
marketing materials. Over 30 leaders of Russian
language services market took part in the contest.
Since then we have been providing SAP with quality
translating and interpreting services on a regular
basis, almost daily. The work comprises translation
of press-releases, localization of marketing
materials, as well as consecutive and simultaneous
interpreting at meetings and conferences.
The challenge: SAP CIS had a meeting
of IT-Directors in Moscow and needed a highly
qualified interpreter, who would be familiar
with the terminology and also able to interpret
speeches simultaneously.
The solution: Rulex Language
Services managed to provide professional interpreters
the day SAP placed the order, as the meeting
was scheduled for the following day. Read

Hilti case study (click here to read) Company profile:
Hilti, Liechtenstein-based international company,
manufacturing and marketing products for the
construction and building maintenance industries,
primarily to the professional end-user. With
more than 18,000 employees worldwide and a wide
range of products, since 1993 it has opened
over Hilti-centers in more than 30 Russian cities
and has a large distribution network.
Since 2006 Rulex provides Hilti
with translation of technical and legal documents
as well as marketing and staff training materials
on a regular basis.
The challenge: translation
and localization of an educational program (Flash-based
application), manuals, posters, and handouts
(MS Word and PowerPoint formats) for a phone
skills training.
The solution: the ways of
addressing people advised in the course was
different from what is normal in Russia, so
with Hilti’s consent the text was changed by
the translators in line with local customs.
The measurements, dates and names of people
in given examples of phone calls were also changed
into more appropriate Russian ones. While the
text was translated, Rulex in-house engineers
worked on the program’s interface to enable
Cyrillic (not supported by the original Flash
course), which is used in the Russian language.

The result: perfect teamwork
of project managers, translators, editors and
engineers, creation of a glossary including
various abbreviations, and exchange of translation
memories among the translators let Rulex produce
a consistent translation of the training materials
and localize them.

Nord Stream case study (click here to read)
Company profile: Nord Stream
AG, a Switzerland-based joint venture company,
established 2 December 2005 with the purpose
of carrying out feasibility study and building
the Nord Stream Pipeline. Nord Stream is a gas
pipeline to link Russia and the European Union
via the Baltic Sea. It will carry natural gas
to supply both businesses and households. The
new pipeline will be an important factor of
energy security in Europe. Nord Stream is more
than just a pipeline. It is a new channel for
Russian natural gas exports, and a major infrastructure
project which sets a new benchmark in EU-Russia
cooperation.
In June 2007 Rulex Language Services
(known in Russia under the name "Perevedem.ru")
won the bid and signed a contract for providing
translation services to Nord Stream AG.
The challenge: urgent high-quality
translation of a 135-page document from Russian
into English. The document was a scientific
report and contained numerous terms, which
had to be translated consistently.
The solution: translation
memories, which had been created beforehand
on the basis of texts translated earlier,
were a great help in the work. Exchanging
translation memories between the translators
and editors allowed keep the consistency of
terms use and save a lot of time.
The result: perfect project
management, use of translation memories and
high qualification of our native English translators
allowed Rulex have the document translated in
10 days. |

Ministry case study (click here
to read)
Profile: Ministry of the Interior of
Russia
The challenge: translation from
Russian into English and Arabic of the Ministry’s
website. On one hand, the translation had to be of
highest quality as the website represents a Russian
public institution to other countries, on the other
hand, the text contains many Russian notions and realia
unfamiliar to native speakers of English and Arabic.
The solution: The sites were translated
by qualified Russian translators and then proofread
by native speakers of the respective languages.

IKEA case study (click here to read) Company profile: IKEA
is a Swedish company with a network of 253 stores
in 35 countries selling furniture and goods
for the home. Since 1999 IKEA has opened 10
stores in Russia and is about to open 2 more.
IKEA’s most important marketing channel is its
catalogue. Last year more than 191 million copies
were printed in 56 editions and 27 languages.
Having won a bid in early 2007 Rulex
Language Services translates and localizes
manuals, instructions, marketing and staff training
materials for IKEA on a regular basis.
The challenge: texts of IKEA’s catalogues,
website, brochures, price tags and other marketing
materials have to be consistent in terminology
and style. Moreover, the task is complicated
by numerous specific notions known to IKEA’s
in-house translators only. This implies either
training translators and depending on their
availability or... creating a style guide.
The solution: the style guide we made
for IKEA includes translations of most frequent
occurrences of terms, names of departments,
goods, and abbreviations in IKEA’s texts, which
are often quite different from what one can
find in a common dictionary. It also gives approaches
for different kinds of texts, advises on style,
localization and formatting. The guide was created
on the basis of carefully translated texts and
advices of IKEA’s in-house translators, then
it was checked by qualified editors and linguists,
and approved by IKEA’s experts. Read more about

The result: the style guide lets
IKEA and Rulex Language Services assign translation
jobs to any qualified translators and editors
without prior training and helps save about 15%
of editing time. |

ABBYY case study (click here
to read)
Company profile: international
ABBYY Software House company, a global leader
in software development in applied linguistics,
creator of renowned Lingvo electronic dictionaries
and other software.
Since 2006 ABBYY is an official partner of RULEX.
Although we remain independent, we have gained
access to all the resources of ABBYY (hundreds
of software engineers, linguists, and editors),
and the potential to successfully implement
highly complicated projects. Rulex Language
Services provides translation of ABBYY's legal
documents and takes part in major program localization
projects.
The challenge: urgent translation of
a text into 12 languages: German, Dutch, Swedish,
French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Hungarian,
Bulgarian, Polish, Czech, Slovak.

Microsoft case study (click here to read) Company profile: world-famous
American computer technology corporation with 79,000
employees in 102 countries; developer, manufacturer, and
supporter of a wide range of software products for
computing devices. Their products have prominent
positions in the desktop computer market, with market
share estimates as high as 90% or more as of 2003 for
Microsoft Office and 2006 for Microsoft Windows.
The challenge: translation of over
500 pages of texts in 10 days. The formats of the source
files were Word, Word 2007, PowerPoint, Excel and Adobe
pdf.
The solution: a team of 11
qualified translators, 5 editors, and 3 proofreaders
led by a dedicated manager used a TM based
program to convert the source texts into a
single format, so that they could exchange
